Full Description:
U.S. law requires American flags be destroyed and replaced when they are not a fitting emblem for display. Does the American flag at your home need to be replaced?
HPH Hospice team offices will accept worn American flags from the public throughout the year. The flags will be delivered to the Marine Corps League Auxiliary Unit #137, Spring Hill, FL. Auxiliary members remove the stars for their Stars for Troops program. The remaining material and scraps are folded in a military fold and properly disposed of through a prayer and burning ceremony.
The Marine Corps League Auxiliary Unit #137 started the Stars for Troops program in 2009 in conjunction with Gifts from Home and Lea’s Prayers & Postage as a way to send a token of respect and remembrance to troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
HPH Hospice introduced a new component to its We Honor Veterans pinning ceremonies. In addition to a certificate and a pin, each veteran patient receives a star from a worn American flag with a message that reads “I am part of our American flag that has flown over a home in Florida. I can no longer fly. The sun and wind have caused me to become tattered and torn. Please carry me as a reminder that you are not forgotten.”
